OVERVIEW - Community Grant Making Program

Grant Making Guidelines and Policies

The Piedmont Community Foundation (the Foundation) generally concentrates its resources locally in order to maximize benefits to area residents. Grant support will be considered to nonprofits in diverse fields to improve lives of residents in the northern piedmont region of Virginia including specifically Loudoun and Fauquier counties.
• Children and Families • Education
• Civic Progress • Environment and Preservation
• Culture and Arts • Health and Human Services

In these 6 funding areas the Foundation is interested in working with organizations and associations to build on community strengths and find solutions to community problems. Grants for the above activities may also be available through donor-advised funds of the Foundation.
The Foundation seeks to support charitable organizations by making capital, equipment and operating grants to support their capacity to enhance services in our communities. These grants become possible through various individual and family funds contributed by donors for distribution by the Foundation. The funds emanate from restricted and unrestricted funds administered by the Foundation. (See program areas, grant preferences and eligibility requirements for more detailed information.) Because of limited resources, there are restrictions on the scope of activities the foundation is able to support. In general, the Foundation does not make grants from its unrestricted fund for:

• Annual fundraising drives
• Individuals
• Debt retirement or deficit financing
• Economic development to Government agencies
• Endowments
• Fraternal organizations, societies or orders
• Medical research
• Religious organizations for religious purposes
• Political organizations or political campaigns
• Travel and conferences

Please consider this information as grant guidelines, not rules. The Foundation is willing to consider any proposal that could have a major positive impact on the community, especially if funding is not available from any other source.

The Foundation makes grants on an equal opportunity basis adhering to the values and principles enumerated in our nondiscrimination statement. Grant applicants are required to hold similar standards and provide a written statement documenting their agreement.
